Neuwied passes

“Neuwied #passt” was the joint campaign of the city of Neuwied and many local football and sports clubs, the youth campaign “Wir gegen Rassismus” in the Diocese of Trier, 1. FC Kaiserslautern and the aid organisation Caritas international. Together they sent a clear signal against racism and collected 2,000 euros in donations for people in war and crisis zones. The challenge was to pass a football back and forth in the air, in pairs, as often as possible. Professional footballers Erik Durm and Philipp Hercher of 1. FCK had shown how it is done at the Betzenberg stadium. Plenty of players from Neuwied football clubs and the Neuwied ice sports club, along with pupils and teachers from the Ludwig Erhardt vocational school of business, kept the ball in the air with great success. Their sporting effort was rewarded by the sponsors SWN – Stadtwerke Neuwied GmbH, Gemeindliche Siedlungs-Gesellschaft Neuwied and Sparkasse Neuwied. Right on time for the International Weeks Against Racism, Mayor Peter Jung handed the cheque to Christopher Hoffmann, pastoral officer of the Neuwied pastoral area and a founding member of “Wir gegen Rassismus”. The money goes to Caritas international and supports people in Syria, Iraq, South Sudan and Ukraine.
