“We are colourful — world is a family!”

Under this motto, the Dieblich scout group Stamm Treverer and the asylum, migration and integration working group of the Maifeld-Untermosel deanery took part in the Dieblich carnival parade on Sunday 3 March, together with people from many nations. Life along the Mosel is becoming ever more varied and colourful, and it takes place in good neighbourliness. The participants expressed exactly that with their float and their colourful clothes, some of them from their own traditions.

The colourful goings-on began on the Saturday with the painting of paper suits. On the Sunday it was mainly women who met up to dress in traditional garments from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq, Syria, India and Somalia. The clothes were put on with joy and with pride, for they are precious and mean a great deal to those who wear them.

Nearly 60 people made their way through the streets of Dieblich as a colourful crowd, warmly applauded and welcomed. Treats and delicacies from the various countries were served, bringing a sweet smile to many a spectator at the roadside.

The carnival call “Helau” was quickly learned — no translation was needed, joy brings people together. On the float, a globe symbolised that we all belong to this world, and world-map fabric was stretched around it: world is a family.
